Match Report

In a pulsating game where DFC knew a victory would give them the league title with two games to spare manager Uprichard reverted to a more traditional formation and this proved decisive as DFC weathered the storm in the opening period before going on to close out the game and secure the title.

On 8 minutes Redpath had an excellent run down the right but his final ball was safely gathered by the keeper . Then five minutes later it took an exceptional save by Croft in the home goals to keep out a certain own goal but he flung himself towards the top corner and turned it away for a corner.

Right at the start of the second half DFC finally unlocked the Fivemiletown defence when Rodgers who had another excellent game today played an exquisite pass for Thompson to run in behind and score a superb goal low into the bottom corner.

The same player a minute later had almost an identical chance after being put through by McConnell but he delayed his shot and the keeper saved well and then it was Fivemiletown who on the break almost caught DFC napping.

The game then ebbed and flowed with McCordick having an effort saved and Redpath clearing off the line at the other end.

Thompson was then replaced by Glenn Hand making a long-awaited comeback after 12 week hamstring injury and within 5 minutes of coming on it was that man McCordick who kept his composure in the box to chip home goal number two and ease the tension and Redpath almost followed this up with a third goal but his effort drifted wide of the far post.

McCordick and Adams were then withdrawn and replaced by Norton and Gray who kept the momentum going right to the end where DFC were crowned league champions and now await a play off battle against Portstewart and possibly also a team from the Ballymena Int league.

DFC return to league action on Wednesday night when they host Hanover in their last home league fixture if the season and then the small matter of another cup semi final on Saturday away to Crewe United in the Marshall Cup.
