DFC hosted Portstewart in the home leg of this play off for either of the two teams to get back into senior football after both clubs relegated last season.
DFC prepared very well both on and off the pitch for this game with Planters Park once again in sublime condition amongst the glorious sunshine and in front of a fantastic home support.
It only took DFC seven minutes to open the scoring when a flowing move down the left by Thompson and Hand played in Clarke who duly despatched low into the bottom corner and a few minutes later it should have been two when a glorious low cross from McConnell went a begging at the back post.
It was all DFC at this stage but the visiting keeper pulled off two fantastic saves first from Thompson header and then when the Hughes shot looked like nestling in the top corner the keeper someone managed to get a hand on it and turn it away for a corner.
DFC kept pressing for the all important second goal but this eluded them and they also thought they had a stone wall penalty appeal which the referee admitted at half time his error to his credit but a game of this magnitude should have had linesmen to help out the Referee but this request was rejected earlier in the week.
Porstewart stepped up to the mark more in the second half and on the hour mark drew level when Quigg fed the left winger who wasn’t closed down early enough and he calmly buried his shot into the far corner for the equaliser and possible important away goal.
Uprichard then responded with triple substitution with Thompson and Hughes and Norton off and replaced by Harrison and Adams and Rodgers as DFC went in search of that elusive second goal.
Portstewart then had there center half sent off in final minutes but too late to have any impact on this first leg.
DFC now make the long journey next Saturday to Porstewart and remain quietly confident that they have enough fire power in there locker to see the game through where winner now takes all back to senior football.
