DFC made the long trip on Saturday to the north coast in pursuit of getting back into senior football but were blown away on the pitch by a sharper Portstewart team on the day.
As early as the first minute DFC were one nil down from giving away a penalty and don’t think the team recovered from this shock despite having the full match to get back into the game.
Then on the quarter-hour mark it was a mountain to climb when ever-present keeper Croft made a rare mistake from a corner and 2-0 it was after the ball ended up in the back of the net.
On the half hour mark the referee made a massive call by not awarding DFC a penalty when Norton was upended in the area which would have given DFC a strong foothold back into the game.
The next goal would be crucial whichever way it went and it went to Porstewart on 51 minutes with a simple free header at the back post.
Norton and Rodgers were then replaced by Harrison and Keegan but the game was up at this stage.
We would like to wish Portstewart all the best for next season.
So it was back home for our annual dinner at the planters which still proved a great night as the club celebrated league and cup double with special guest Johnny Tuffey from Glenavon.
DFC would like to thank Time Bar & Venue in Cookstown for providing the pre-match breakfast and sponsoring the match as well, much appreciated.
Our AGM will be Tuesday week 6th at our own club room and we ask all players and supporters to attend.
