Lower Maze made a welcome return to Planters Park in this Irish Cup second round match.
The first half was fairly low key with the game being played at a fairly low tempo and it took until the 25th minute for DFC to go in front when defender Paddy Mooney headed home from an Elliott Rea cross and Neil King went close minutes later with another header which went wide of the far post.
Whatever was said in the changing rooms at half time by manager Uprichard had the desired result as the tempo of the game increased dramatically on on 50 minutes it was 2-0 when the impressive McConnell put in one of many delightful crosses and young Adam Patterson headed home from inside the area.
Young Sean Toman making a highly encouraging debut then crossed for another new signing Conlon to bundle the ball over the line and he was then replaced by Liggett up front who was celebrating his birthday today.
Liggett was soon in the action with a wonderful header from another McConnell cross which rebounded off the post.
Acheson then made way for Moffett and Toman made way for Hand before Liggett set up Johnson to lob the keeper for number 4.
Then in the final minutes man of the match McConnell drove home from distance on his weaker right foot to make the final score 5-0 to DFC and into the hat for the third round of the Irish cup in a months time.
DFC would like to thank again former player Mark Savage FLOORED NI for his very kind match sponsorship and wish him continued success in his business.
Also thanks to the ball sponsor who wishes to remain anonymous.
