DFC made a return to play Coagh United in the McComb’s Coach Travel Intermediate Cup on Saturday and despite 4-5 changes in the team came away with a hard earned 1-0 victory.
It was fully 30 minutes before a serious effort on target by either side and it was a Liggett header that was cleared off the line.
Coagh has a half chance themselves a few minutes later with a header from a corner that flashed past the back post.
Liggett then played in Gourley just before the break but despite beating the last defender the keeper came out and claimed the ball.
The second half wasn’t much better by either team and no surprises to see Hand and Jones introduced in place of Rea and Patterson.
Finally on 75 minutes the deadlock got broken when a Gourley cross found McConnell at the back post and he calmly headed into an empty net.
Not a great game but the victory puts DFC into the second round draw.
