Goal Fest At Planters Park As The Dollybirds Triumph In Penalty Shoot-Out Against The Glens

A very youthful Glentoran under 20 team came to Planters Park and really put it up to DFC in The Match Intermediate Cup with both sides all square at 4 – 4 after extra time and DFC running out winners in a penalty shoot out that took 8 from each side to finally divide the teams.

Thompson went on long solo run on 10 minutes buy had no end product and skipper Aaron Moffett headed against the post from a corner but with the wind behind them Glentoran played very neat and tidy game and went in front on the quarter hour mark from the penalty spot and few minutes later they broke away from a DFC corner to capitalise on another error at the back to go 2-0 up before Ryan Gourley pulled one back at the second attempt into the far corner .

Then before the break Glentoran extended there lead with a deflected shot from distance to go into the interval 3-1 up.

Credit to DFC in the second half led by the veteran Glen Hand they kept plugging away and indeed Hand himself should have pulled one back on 50 minutes when Richy Thompson set him up but he fired over the bar.

Nathan McConnell then put in a delightful cross for Andy McMath to head in at the back post and game was then back on again. Michael Denver was then replaced by Davy Gray who injected new life into DFC with his trickery and it was him who made it all square on the hour mark.

DFC piles on the pressure and a McMath pile driver was only just over the bar and Thompson hit the post plus team had numerous other chances but failed to convert and into extra time it went.

In the opening minute Glentoran scored with a fantastic curling shot into the top corner and it looked like DFC were going to pay for all there missed chances.

Stephen Jones was replaced by another veteran Adam Montgomery and Chris Coleman by Scott Adams as DFC went in search of another equaliser and it came from Montgomery to force the game into penalties.

Moffett and McMath both missed for the home team but goals from McConnell, Adams, Gourley , Jake Redpath, Hand and Gray was enough to ease the team into the next round against a superbly talented young group of Glentoran players.

DFC would like to thanks match sponsor Screen Spares from Dungannon and Bobby Loney as ball sponsor for there support today.

Next week DFC host another premier league under 20 team namely Dungannon Swifts in the semi final of the Bob Radcliffe cup with a 1.30pm kick off.
