MATCH REPORT | Opening Day Defeat As A Braniff Fluke Clips The Dollybirds Wings

Delighted to finally get our league campaign under way at the pristine Planters Park in front of a very good crowd but unfortunately we ended up on the wrong end of a 1-0 loss to Lisburn Distillery.

Missing two influential midfielders from Tuesday night’s game we still competed very well throughout the 90 minutes and were only beaten by a fluke goal from a cross by the enigmatic Irish league veteran Kevin Braniff on 77 minutes.

Distillery created first goal chance on 5 minutes but home keeper Maguire got down well to smother the shot.

Thompson was lively for the home side in the first half with some good runs from deep but both sides went into the break all square.

Gourley created a good chance on the left for Johnson on the hour mark and few minutes later the best flowing move of the game resulted only in a corner for DFC when they were hoping to open the scoring.

After Braniff put the away team in front Liggett and Kernahan replaced Paterson and Gourley.

Moffett headed against the post from a corner before he was replaced by young Caolan Conlon making his debut.

Overall a draw would have been a fair result but we move on now to next week and away to Limavady another former premier league side.

We would like to thank Playing for the Future for sponsoring the Matchday and also our Chaplain David Pierce for sponsoring the Matchball, much appreciated,

Tonight we are happy to confirm the signing of experienced midfielder David McCullough from Loughgall before the transfer window closes at midnight.

Welcome to our club Davy.
